Crick History Society and The Moorings are celebrating the bicentenary of the official opening (9th August 1814) of the Old Grand Union canal from Foxton to Norton Junction, near Long Buckby wharf.
The Crick festivities will focus on the Wharf and the Tunnel. Most activities take place canal-side in and around the marquee on The Moorings car park.
Entry is free as is car parking, which will be in the field on the opposite side of the A428 by the entrance to Crick Marina.

This weekend the famous Foxton Lock Flight in Leicestershire, one of the most iconic and best-known set of canal locks in the country, is celebrating its 200th birthday.
Join us for three days of celebrations to mark this bicentenary.
The first 200 visitors on Friday will be treated to free ice-creams from the Top Lock Café, while on Saturday and Sunday people will be able to enjoy stalls selling local goodies, a local folk band playing traditional canal music and, on Sunday, a parade of historic boats which will have made the day-long journey from Crick in Northamptonshire.

A popular and long-running music festival in the canal town of Cropredy.

Come along the the Blisworth Canal Festival 2014 for a weekend of music, boats, great food and fun-filled activities.
More than 25,000 visitors had a ball at Blisworth Canal Festival 2013 and this year’s extravanza looks set to be just as successful.
As well as live music, visiting boats, stalls and children’s activities, the Festival Field will also host vintage vehicles, a dog show, World War II re-enactments and much more.
There will also be pony rides, a rare breed farmyard, rural craft demonstrations, a have-a-go bell tower, Art Gallery, traction engine, Open Gardens (Sunday only), antiques, parrots, owls, coffee house with scrummy food – the list just goes on!!
The festival is organised by Blisworth Canal Partnership. This is a non-profit making organisation. All of the proceeds from the festival go directly into projects to enhance the local canal environment.

The early days of canals will be celebrated at the National Waterways Museum with the Horses At Work event.
Heavy horses will be visiting the museum to give a spectacular demonstration of horse-drawn canal boating – as well as old style horse and carts clip-clopping around the extensive museum grounds.
