Canal News – Volunteers needed in Alrewas for towpath tidy

Volunteers needed in Alrewas for towpath tidy

Posted by Waterway Watcher on June 18th, 2011

In preparation for the Alrewas Canal & Music Festival, Stuart Collins, BW Volunteer Leader in BW’s Central Shires Region recently organised a few work party days at Alrewas to tidy up the towpath.

The first one was last Wednesday where a small group did a great job tidying up the towpath around the Alrewas lock area. This only just touched the surface so Stuart is looking to organise a more few work days.

Anyone who would like to assist for a day or just an hour or two then gather at at Gaskells bridge (Church Road, Alrewas) on Wednesday June 22nd  at 09.45′ish for a 10.00 start. People can either bring their own lunch or enjoy the offerings at one of the local pubs.

  • 7:30 pm – Village meets Early Bird Boaters evening – music by The Ample Band bring your musical instrument if you fancy joining in.

Friday, 22nd July 2011 – Evening

Tom Kitching and Gren Bartley are one of the brightest young acts on the folk scene today. Playing music from a remarkably broad range of sources, their new album ‘Boundary’ crosses genres with a healthy disdain for arbitrary pigeon-holing of styles and traditions. Some songs just need to be sung. ‘The instruments spark, with the combination of the bright fiddle and the acclaimed finger picking style of Bartley giving a lovely flow to the tunes’ – Maverick Magazine
