  1. The brown saddle tank on the cover reminds me of the red and blue locomotive we had at CEGB Brimsdown power station, back in the 60’s, any relation

    • Hi Howard, not a direct relation but a more modern version. The Chasewater one is a Hawthorn Leslie No 2780 of 1909 named ‘Asbestos’, while ‘yours’ is a Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn, very similar but with a few minor refinements, No. 7386 of 1948, named ‘Birkenhead’. This loco is still running and is owned by the Great Western Society.
      Incidentally, the photo on the cover is not a very good reproduction – it was never brown!!. Probably dark red when the photo was taken.
