Visitor Mooring at Upton Upon Severn, River Severn
Tuesday 14 May 2013 until further notice
Dear Boaters,
We have given our consent for the passenger boat Avon Belle to board and disembark passengers from the visitor mooring at Upton this season. Newly introduced restrictions on coaches passing through the town mean that the operators can no longer take coach parties at their home mooring downstream of the town centre. The designated coach park is right opposite the visitor mooring, so this is a very useful pick up point for parties arriving by coach. The operators will put up signs on the mooring advising when they are going to be picking up/setting down. The boat will continue to be moored downstream, below the town, when not in use.
They will not use the mooring at all during the jazz and blues festivals. The marina (just downstream of the town bridge, on the opposite side of the river to the visitor mooring) offers visitor mooring should you find the moorings full at any time. This is a one year trial. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact me.
Thank you very much for your co-operation.

Cromwell Lock
Friday 10 May 2013 – Saturday 18 May 2013
Following on from the advice notice concerning the presence of sand bars at points on the River Trent, we have today taken the decision to close the River Trent at Cromwell Lock.
These sand bars arose from the floods of last year and over the past few days, the sand bar at Cromwell has developed to such an extent that we are now unable to guarantee safe passage for boats exiting or entering Cromwell Lock.
Although dredging works were planned to take place later this month at Cromwell, we will today divert resources from other works to the lock with the intention of commencing dredging as soon as possible.
Although the speed of resolving this issue is somewhat tide dependant, and somewhat exasperated by low rainfall, we will do what we can to allow passage through the lock from next Saturday, the 18th May.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and fully intend to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
These initial works to reopen the navigation will be followed by major dredging at this and several others sites on the River Trent over the coming months. We will keep boaters updated as the works progress.

Wednesday 16 February 2011 until further notice
UPDATE (04 April 2013): Following a review of our planned spend for 2011/12 we have chosen to reduce the hours our lock keepers will be in attendance at the non-tidal River Trent Locks from the current hours of 9:30am to 6:00pm to new hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
We have not taken this decision lightly and understand it will cause some annoyance and disruption, but in view of reduced national budgets a cut in overtime has been necessary.
I trust you will appreciate this is only a small reduction in hours against a backdrop of much bigger cuts.

Monday 11 March 2013 – Friday 26 April 2013
UPDATE (28 March 2013): Unfortunately the damaged lock gate has not yet been removed from the lock due to access issues with the land owners. Temporary road access is required and we cannot do this without crossing other peoples land and permission has not been given yet.
